Dulce de Leche
(Sweet Milk Dessert)
Serves 6-8
- 2 litres full fat milk
- 12 tbsp sugar
- 1 tbsp vanilla
Instructions:
- Over a medium high heat, heat the milk in a large pan
- When boiling, add 1-2 teaspoons of sugar every 5 minutes
- After approx 30 minutes when all the sugar has been added, add the vanilla
- Remove from heat when mixture gets a 'crumbly' textrure
- Be careful not to let mixture burn or get darker than a light tan colour
- Mix to a paste and serve when cool
The cheat or easy version of this recipe is to use a can a can of sweetened condensed milk, which takes just a short time. Empty the contents into a saucepan and heat over a medium low heat. Stir constantly until the liquid is of the desired consistency. Allow to cool, mix again and serve.
